Allow at least ten unhurried minutes in each shortlisted chair. Check the fit first, then operate every movement yourself and repeat the rise action. Use your normal sitting position, not a showroom pose, and confirm the details of the exact chair before leaving.

For chair users and relatives who want a calm, repeatable showroom test instead of relying on appearance or a quick sit.
Sit for ten minutes, not ten seconds
A chair reveals itself slowly.
Pressure points, back support and head position only become obvious after several minutes, so sit properly in each shortlisted chair: shoes off if you can, hands off the arms, and let the body settle before judging.
Bring the book, tablet or TV habits with you mentally: sit as you would sit on a Tuesday evening, not as you think a showroom expects.
Run the full action, twice
Operate the handset yourself through every movement: back, footrest, seat tilt if fitted, and the full rise to standing. Do it twice.
The first cycle is about learning the buttons; the second is about feeling the movement and listening for anything rough.
Finish back in the seated position using reset, because that is the movement you will use most.

Check the fit against the person
Feet flat, knees roughly level, lower back supported, head neutral. Then stand up and sit down three times without using hands unless you would normally need to.
If the intended user cannot attend, measure them at home first and bring the numbers.
Ask the questions that matter
Confirm the exact model, size, action and cover in writing, and with it the lead time, delivery arrangement, guarantee terms and VAT relief position.
Ask what happens if the chair does not suit after a week at home; the answer tells you a lot about the retailer.
